The original Cabra Castle, the ruins of which still stand on high ground above the Wishing Well, not far from Cromwell's Bridge, was situated to the west of the Kingscourt - Carrickmacross Road. The Castle and the land surrounding it is believed to have belonged to the O'Reilly Family until it was confiscated in the mid 17th century by Cromwell's orders and given to Colonel Thomas Cooch.

Nearby: Horse Riding & Outdoor Pursuits, Rough Shooting and Fishing, Dun A Ri Forest park, Flemings ruined castle.

How to get there: Directions from Dublin: : This journey will take less than one and a half hours. Take the N3, direction Navan. (If travelling from the airport take the M50 to get to the N3 junction).  In Navan,  at the third set of traffic lights,  you take a right onto the R162. This road brings you through a small village called Wilkinstown, then Nobber, and then Kingscourt. When you arrive in Kingscourt, you take a right at the second roundabout onto the Carrickmacross road. The avenue to the Hotel is located 2 miles from Kingscourt on the right hand side.
Directions from Belfast: : Leaving Belfast take the A1 passing through Newry and on to Dundalk. In Dundalk you take the R179 which brings you to Carrickmacross. In Carrickmacross,  you then take the Kingscourt road (this road has quite a lot of bends on it so caution is advised). The hotel is approximately 7 miles out this road (just before Kingscourt town). The junction for the avenue to the hotel is situated on the left hand side of the road - on a dangerous bend, so again caution is advised - there are markings for "concealed entrance" and "slow" approaching the entrance.
