Meath The county of Meath is just north of Dublin and is renowned for the ruins of pre-Christian and medieval heritage found across the countryside. The most famous of these are the 5,000-year old burial chambers of Newgrange; the Hill of Tara which was the seat of rule of Ireland's High Kings; the 12th-century Trim Castle which is the largest remaining Norman castle in Europe. There are several more sites including the 12th century Bective Abbey, the burial passage tomb at Loughcrew, and the Hill of Slane where Saint Patrick is said to have lighted the flame of Christianity. Meath is also a prosperous agricultural area and it's very pleasant to tour through the rolling countryside, winding roads and picturesque villages. Tourist
